Laser Hair Removal
LHR effectiveness varies based on hair type, growth cycle, and the individual's medical history with hormones and medications being the most influential.
No, not all hairs in the concerned region will be visible and treatable on the 1st session due to hair growth cycles and other influencing factors such as hormones, medications, and more.
Areas that are heavily dense with hair require more than one session to successfully reduce all hairs in that area permanently.
The duration of the treatment sessions depends on the amount of areas being treated and the hair density.
A single session could take more than 20, 60, 100, or 150 minutes.
We will give you an indication of the duration during your consultation.
The number of sessions varies depending on the individual's hair type, colour, medical history, hormones, medications, and the total area being treated. Acne
Various factors, such as stress, hormonal changes, and medications, that induces sebaceous activity leading to increased production of Testosterone, which converts to Dihydrotestosterone, that lead to blocked pores, Comodones, Pustules, Papules, Cysts, and Nodular Cysts.
While comedones are a type of acne lesion, not all acne is comedonal. Comedones refer specifically to clogged hair follicles, either open (blackheads) or closed (whiteheads).
Acne can appear as red, swollen, pus-filled bumps called papules, pustules, nodules, or cysts.
Topical creams, especially those containing Benzoyl peroxide only treats the present bacterial buildup and not the underlying causes. Dermaquest's professional acne range are especially formulated with Salicylic acid to control and reduce the skin's sebaceous activity thus reducing the proliferation of acne-inducing bacteria.
Certain foods, like dairy and high glycemic index foods, may make skin problems worse, according to some studies. These foods can trigger insulin spikes, which in turn might influence oil production and inflammation in some individuals. Dietary allergies and intolerances also can trigger acne flareups.
Not always! With advanced treatments that include Dermaquests' professional range of Chemical Peels and Skin Care products and medical microneeding with Dermapen's XCellarisPro Twist, most scars can be significantly reduced or eliminated.
Acne is categorised into grades that relate to the severity of the condition.
There are 5 acne grades:
- Grade 1 (Mild): Generally associated with open comedones (blackheads), closed comedones (whiteheads), papules (very few red bumps).
- Grade 2 (Moderate): More comedones plus numerous papules. Pustules (pus filled bumps) on specifically the face.
- Grade 3 (Moderately Severe): Usually associated with many papules and pustules with occasional inflamed nodules (hard lumps under the skin) appearing often on the back and chest in addition to the face. When untreated, scarring can occur.
- Grade 4 (Severe): Painful and inflamed pustules and nodules extending to more areas of the body. More likely to cause scarring.
- Grade 5 (Very Severe/Nodulocystic): Highly inflamed and extensive acne with numerous large nodules and cysts (deep, pus-filled lesions). Highly scarring. Generally requiring medical intervention.
Acne Scarring
Acne scars result from severe inflammation, damaged collagen, genetics, and delayed treatment of the initial acne breakout.
Most scars can be treated, but effectiveness varies based on scar type, skin type, and chosen treatment method.
Early acne treatment, avoiding picking/squeezing, and maintaining a consistent skincare routine can help prevent scar formation.
Some home remedies may help, but professional treatments often yield more consistent and long-lasting results for scar reduction.
Ageing Skin
Ageing skin results from a combination of intrinsic factors like genetics and the body's natural ageing process, and extrinsic factors such as sun exposure, environmental pollutants, and lifestyle choices. Over time, these factors lead to changes in the skin's appearance and texture.
As we age:
The epidermis (outermost layer) thins, making the skin more fragile.
The dermis sees a reduction in collagen and elastin, leading to sagging and wrinkles.
The subcutaneous layer loses fat, resulting in a hollow appearance, especially around the eyes and cheeks.
Air pollutants, an unhealthy diet, gravity, alcohol intake, smoking, and chronic stress can speed up skin ageing. Pollutants break down collagen, leading to wrinkles and dryness. Diets lacking essential vitamins can cause inflammation and oxidative stress. Chronic stress releases cortisol, which can break down collagen and elastin.
At Identity+ Aesthetics, we offer mirconeedling services, Dermaquest chemical peels & resurfacers, and personalised medical grade skincare regimens. These treatments hydrate, exfoliate, rejuvenate, stimulate collagen production, restore volume, and smooth out wrinkles, ensuring the skin remains radiant and youthful.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin can result from genetics, environmental factors, harsh products, or underlying skin conditions. Identifying triggers is crucial for effective management.
It depends on your skin type and the exfoliant used. Generally, 1-3 times a week is recommended, but always consult with a skincare professional.
Use broad-spectrum sunscreens with physical blockers, wear protective clothing, and avoid peak sun hours for optimal protection.
Natural doesn't always mean safer. It's essential to read ingredients and patch-test any product, natural or synthetic, before full use.
Demodex mites are present on everyone's skin but are observed at greater numbers on individuals with Rosacea and are not the cause of Rosacea. A immune response inducing bacterium associated with Demodex mites has been found to increase inflammation in the area.
Uneven Skin Texture & Dull Complexions
It depends on your skin type and the exfoliant used. Generally, 1-3 times a week is recommended, but always consult with a skincare professional.
While some home remedies can offer temporary relief, for long-lasting results and to address the root cause, professional treatments are advisable.
The timeline varies based on the treatment and individual skin type. Some treatments offer immediate results, while others require multiple sessions.
Absolutely! A balanced diet, regular exercise, and proper skincare routine can significantly enhance your complexion.
Sun Damaged Skin
For continuous protection, reapply sunscreen every 2 hours and immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.
Contrary to some beliefs, tanning beds emit concentrated UV rays, posing similar or even heightened risks compared to natural sunlight.
Absolutely!
Pigmentation
Hyperpigmentation refers to the darkening of the skin due to an overproduction of melanin, resulting in dark spots or patches. Common examples include melasma and sunspots. On the other hand, hypopigmentation is the reduction of melanin, leading to lighter patches on the skin. Vitiligo is a classic example of hypopigmentation.
While many pigmentation issues can be significantly reduced or managed with the right treatments, some might not be completely curable. The outcome often depends on the underlying cause, the type of pigmentation, and individual skin responses.
The timeline for visible results varies based on the treatment type and the severity of the pigmentation. Some treatments offer immediate results, while others require multiple sessions over weeks or months. It's essential to have realistic expectations and consult with skincare professionals for a tailored timeline.
Yes. At Identity+ Aesthetics, we ensure that our clients are well-informed about the immediate post-treatment downtime and aftercare needs.
Post-Surgical Scarring
Scar appearance depends on incision size, skin type, genetics, wound care, surgery location, and individual healing processes, all affecting scar prominence and texture.
Minimise scar appearance through consistent wound care, sun protection, silicone gel sheets, and professional treatments like laser therapy or microneedling for optimal results.
While some scars fade over time, others may be permanent. However, treatments can significantly reduce visibility and improve texture, even if not entirely removed.
Keloid or hypertrophic scars result from aggressive healing. Genetics, skin type, and wound location play roles, with some individuals more predisposed to such scar formations.
Lesions
No, many skin lesions are benign and pose no harm. However, it's essential to monitor any changes in size, shape, or colour and consult a professional for a proper assessment.
Some signs can show a cancerous spot, like uneven edges, fast growth, or colour changes. A doctor's evaluation and maybe a biopsy are usually needed for a definite diagnosis. Consult GP before proceeding mole removal.
Most lesions can be treated or removed, depending on their nature and location. The method of treatment will vary based on the type of lesion.
While not all lesions are preventable, maintaining good skin hygiene, protecting your skin from excessive sun exposure, and regular skin checks can help in early detection and prevention.
Excess Hair
Vellus hair, often referred to as "peach fuzz," is the fine, light-coloured hair that covers most of the body. Terminal hair, on the other hand, is the coarser, darker, and longer hair that grows on the head, underarms, pubic area, and other parts of the body post-puberty and androgen exposure.
The number of sessions varies depending on the individual's hair type, colour, medical history, hormones, medications, and the total area being treated. Most people require a minimum of 8 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart for face and 6 weeks apart for body for optimal results. Some clients may require 12, 16, or more sessions.
However, during your consultation at Identity+ Aesthetics we'll provide a more personalised estimate.
