Lesions
Types of Lesions
Milia/Milium
Milia are small cysts that are white or yellow and appear under the skin. These cysts are filled with a protein called keratin and typically manifest around the eyes, cheeks, nose, and forehead. Unlike acne, milia are neither red nor inflamed, and they don't contain pus. They are benign and generally harmless often forming from surface trapped shedded skins cells.
Moles
Moles are growths on the skin that varying in size, shape, and pigmentation colour.
While most remain benign throughout a lifetime, some can undergo changes due to various factors. Beyond their physical attributes, moles can also be a reflection of one's genetic makeup, sun exposure history, or formed from hormonal changes .
Consult GP before considering mole removal to determine if the growth is a mole or an indication of a medical condition or concern.
Seborrhoeic Keratosis
Seborrhoeic Keratosis is a common, benign skin growth that resembles warts. They are often brown, black, or light tan, and they look like they've been pasted on the skin. While they can appear anywhere on the body, they are most commonly found on the chest, back, head, or neck.
Spider Veins
Spider veins, medically referred to as telangiectasias, are minuscule, superficial blood vessels that become visible on the skin's surface. These veins appear as thin, red or blue lines that intricately spread out, resembling a spider's web or a tree's branches. Predominantly appearing on areas like the legs and face, their presence can sometimes be a cosmetic concern for individuals.
It's crucial to distinguish spider veins from varicose veins. Varicose veins are bigger and stick out from the skin. They can cause pain and discomfort. Spider veins are flat and usually don't hurt, but they can make people feel self-conscious because they can be seen.
Skin Tags
Skin tags, medically known as acrochordons, are skin growths that hang off the skin. They are harmless and usually found in skin folds like the neck, armpits, groin, and eyelids. While skin tags are harmless and don't usually cause pain or discomfort, they can become irritated if they are rubbed by clothing, jewellery, or when shaving.
Skin tags are made of blood vessels, collagen fibres, and a thin layer of skin. They can vary in size, from a tiny pinhead-sized bump to the size of a large pea or even bigger.
